Good and Gracious God, we give You thanks as we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of St. Anthony’s Parish. Deepen within us a sense of gratitude for the heritage created by the many sacrifices, dreams, and prayers of all those who have gone before us. Continue to make our parish and its people a blessing to our community and embolden us to move forward with strength as we build up Your Kingdom through our parish life. Through our continued faithfulness and prayers, continue to bless the work of Your Church, making this parish truly a shining light in our world for many years to come. Following the teaching of our patron St. Anthony, and through his intercession, make our sacred space a place of refreshment and strength for those who seek solace and comfort in a divided and difficult world. Create in us renewed hearts that can build a future as bright and generous as our past. We ask these things, as we ask all things, through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Throughout this entire year St. Anthony's will commemorate its 100th Anniversary. Our parish began as a mission of the Capuchin Friars from Sacred Heart. In 1923, due to the growing population of the Nepera Park seciton of Yonkers, Cardinal Hayes elevated the Francisican Mission to the canonical level of parish. The Cardinal appointed our first diocesan pastor, Fr. John Murphy, who served as pastor for 20 years.
St. Anthony's has faithfully served the people of Nepera Park for 100 Years. It has endured depressions, two world wars, a fire that destroyed the orginal church, and the ever changing cultural landscape. 100 Years of ups and downs, but still going strong! We hope you will join us to celebrate our 100 Years of Faith and Service at one of this year's Centennial Events.
